It is with great sadness that we mourn the passing of Sensei Devorah Wear Dometrich Herbst (Debbie-San). In recent years, many students of the U.S. Chito-kai had the great opportunity to learn from Sensei Debbie at several clinics where she instructed us in the Sai and Bo. She had a lifetime of experience and knowledge in both karate (Chito-ryu) and kobudo (Ryukyu Kobudo Hozon Shinkokai) and was a "no-nonsense" instructor that expected the best out of her students and wouldn't hesitate to challenge them to do better. On Saturday, November 18th, Shihan Shawna Lingo led a one-hour basic training class for the Be.Well Program. The event, offered by the Cincinnati Parks Foundation with support from Cincinnati Children's Hospital, took place at the TM Berry Friendship Park Pavilion near downtown Cincinnati. Members from several U.S. Chito-kai dojos assisted Shihan Lingo during the event and the feedback from the participants afterward was overwhelmingly positive.
